Pain Management

Pain comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be chronic pain, pain due to surgery or pain due to injury, illness or disease. Four other factors are also tied into pain, your emotions, your previous experiences with pain, your personal characteristics and your perception of what pain means to you. Your hypnotherapist can work with all these factors to help you raise your tolerance to pain, lower your perception of pain, numb your pain, heal your injuries or possibly dissolve your pain completely. Our minds and bodies take in enormous amounts of information and stimuli every minute. Our minds are not capable of processing everything that comes to us through our five senses. Some of it is stored for later processing, some of it is filtered out and some of it doesn’t get taken in at all just ignored. This fact can be very helpful in pain management along with the use of imagery and relaxation techniques. Take a quick scan of your body, then ask yourself, during that scan were you aware of your earrings in your ear lobes or your little toe in the corner of your shoe or how your clothing felt on your neck? We are not constantly feeling everything in our body. Pain can be helpful when it is making us aware of a problem that needs to be addressed, however, if we choose to we can learn to turn the signal down or turn it off completely and live more comfortably.
